The Blog Must Go On..
As a result of releasing the artwork, we have gotten quite a few people interested in doing their own piece.
So we thought about it, and decided it would be a good idea, to keep this site open to new submissions. If you Love the Giant or anything about the film and would like to do a piece we can show here, please email us: info@thelabyrinthstore.com
We are accepting roughs and finished images.
please label the file

a flurry of submissions
This is a short post to all the fantastic artists out there that worked so hard to create an original piece of art for this project. THANK YOU.
At the moment we are going crazy with all the files,etc.. trying to get ready for this weekends launch of the show. So if you don't hear from us, don't panic. If for whatever reason, your image doesn't show up by Monday -please contact us. There's a team of us working on posting the art -so if one slipped through the cracks we appologize in advance and hope you take it as a sign that we are mere mortals.
The in-store art show is this Saturday - The art will be up from opening at 11:30 am to 8 pm on Saturday Nov 7th and will remain on display until the end of November. In order to get as many people through the door on the launch day, we have created the Iron Giant Sale (details in the previous post).
Online, the artwork with links to all the artists will go up on Sunday Nov 8th.

Got Giant?
There's still Time to submit your work. Especially if you are doing a digital piece. Please email us at: info@thelabyrinthstore.comFor those of you doing digital art, please send the file so we can print it at 11" by 14" including a bit of a white border.
We will consider other sizes, etc.. if that's what you want. Just give us an email to discuss.
Also - If you have process art showing some steps of your work, that would be great to have for the blog too. I know several people have shown us some and it's all very interesting to see.
The art above was done by Brett Salter and Rowena Bolton. As you can see, you can do whatever you want - the theme is wide open for interpretation. Especially in terms of setting/format.

Brad Bird - is in the car! Still time left to draw..

It's been a while since we posted here -but that's because we know most of you are still working on it. There's still good time to start/finish your pieces. Remember, not only will the art show happen in our Toronto Gallery but will remain online for years to come. Every time someone looks for Iron Giant, they may find your piece and a link to you.
Just for fun, here are a couple of new images. The brainvaders drawing is by Robin Mitchell, and the Iron Giant holding the car with the full cast, including a great drawing of Brad Bird is by Philip Rodriguez. Robin's sketch is still in progress and was done completely digital using a tablet. Philip's drawing was hand done, with the lettering done using photoshop.
You can do it your way - just have fun! When you're ready -email us to let us know you want to participate. our email: info@thelabyrinthstore.com

Yes this is open for anyone to try.
Because we have gotten a number of emails from folks asking if they can join the art show - it seemed appropriate to re-iterate.
ANYONE can do a piece and then send it in (via email first). If it's good, we would be crazy not to accept it. Our goal is to let everyone that loves this movie get a chance to express that. This is not an elitist art show, so draw something and email us.
also a reminder -there are no hard rules on format/style. Do it your way - but make it clearly related to the film in some recognizable way.
It can be a simple sketch, or a finished illustration, a cereal box cover or a Matt painting with the giant staying with you at the cottage. Use your imagination and have fun.
the details (in full ) are here.

Brainvaders Movie Poster within a Movie Update

Juanmanuel Urbina, updated his B-Movie poster image. He also created a black and white version that's a little different on his blog
For those who can't remember - this is the cheesy B-Movie movie that Hogarth was watching at the start of the film. In the middle of it, the Iron Giant eats the antenna off of Hogarth's roof, interrupting the movie signal and Hogarth decides to go out and investigate.

Who, What, Where, When, Why & How
WHAT?
An art show - that pays tribute to the film Iron Giant and the creative folks behind it.
WHY?
Iron Giant is a movie, that while having inspired many an animator, has never attained the box office success that it deserved. Further, this is a tribute to the artists/animators and creators behind Iron Giant.
As a bookshop that specializes in animation books -we often get asked, do you have The Art of Iron Giant. Sadly, the answer is - no such book exists. This art show will never be the Art of Iron Giant, but hopefully it will provide an outlet to show original sketches and illustrations featuring characters and themes in the film.
WHO?
You. We've talked to a number of artists working in the animation industry already, who are interested in doing a piece, but what this blog is about, and what this show is about - is really reaching out to those of you out there that we haven't met yet.
Either you worked on the original film, or simply loved the film and would like to contribute a small piece of art showing your love of Iron Giant and the creative team behind it.
HOW?
Sketches, Illustrations, traditional or digital. Imagine it any way you like - the only rule is that each piece must be recognizable as referencing the film Iron Giant (that includes any/all characters/locations/etc.)
We know you're busy, so that's one reason we are looking for smaller pieces. Ideally pieces should be on a surface no bigger than 8.5 by 11 inches (that's the size of a regular piece of paper.) If you work digitally, set up the file so it can be printed out with these dimensions in mind. Larger pieces will be accepted too - but we're asking for the smaller pieces with the hope that we can fit more pieces into the show.
WHERE?
The Iron Giant Project will take place in two spots. In person at our in store Gallery as well as on the web, here on this blog. The art show itself will be on Saturday Nov 7th.
The web portion of the show will go up on Nov 8th with the full line of all the images that make up the show. We hope to keep this up -for a long time. Each piece will list the artist along with a link to the artists website or blog if that person so desires. Leading to the show date, we will post a few images only as they come in - with the hope of inspiring more of you folks out there to contribute your own pieces.
WHEN?
The Deadline is October 20th. Seems like it's far off, but we urge you to consider starting as soon as you can. Time flies, and October 20th will be here before you know it.
Once you have finished your piece of art, we ask you to email us at: info@thelabyrinthstore.com. After we get that, we may ask you to send the original art in, or send a high res file. This will be on a case by case basis.
Again -some images will be posted on our blog BEFORE the show date, so this may be yours!
NOTE: while we may not post every image ahead of Nov 8th on this blog, we intend to include a link to each artist whose work is submitted and accepted into the show as soon as that happens. So please include your web links along with a jpeg of your work when you email us. If the images are traditional (pencil, pen, marker, paint) - you can either scan the image or take a photo of the image to send us.
WHAT ELSE?
Is there something we've missed?
Do you have any ideas/comments to help us make the most of this?
We welcome your thoughts.
